Truck driver killed on Route 30 identified

State police have identified the tractor trailer driver who was hit and killed along Route 30 in Adams County after becoming disabled in the snow Monday morning.

Police said the victim, 63-year-old Charles Briggs of West Virginia, exited his truck in an attempt to direct traffic around his rig.

He was struck by a passing motorist around 7:15 a.m.

Briggs was transported to Chambersburg Hospital where he died of his injuries.

The incident occurred in Franklin Township, where Route 30 is known locally as the 6100 block of Chambersburg Road.

Police said the driver of the striking vehicle is cooperating and the incident is still under investigation.
