Storm could leave powerless in the dark for days

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Thousands of York County residents who lost electricity service during Wednesday's snow and ice storm could have a long wait before their lights come back on.

Met-Ed spokesman Chris Eck said it will take "multiple days" before power is restored to all customers.

Eck said Met-Ed is working on the most affected areas first, and has service crews coming in from out-of-town to help.

More than 61,000 Met-Ed customers in York County were without electricity as of 2 p.m. Wednesday.

First Energy, Met-Ed's parent company, said nearly 6,000 other customers were without power in Adams County, and nearly 4,000 had no electricity service in Cumberland County.

The utility reported more than 3,200 outages in Lebanon County, more than 2,000 in Franklin County, about 1,360 affected customers in Dauphin County, and about 970 in Lancaster County.

PPL Electric Utilities reported more than 42,000 customers in south central Pennsylvania were without power Wednesday afternoon, most of them - about 35,000 - in Lancaster County.

PPL said about 3,450 other customers were without electricity in Cumberland County, while about 1,700 in Dauphin County and 1,500 in Cumberland County had no service.

Adams Electric reported more than 8,000 outages in its service area.

PECO reported about 4,300 customers in York County remained without power Wednesday afternoon.
