McALISTERVILLE, PA (WHTM) -

A Juniata County man is facing charges for assaulting a state police trooper.

Francis E. Swartzel, 37, of McAlisterville, spit blood on the trooper and kicked him several times Tuesday night before and while Swartzel was transported to the Mifflin County Correctional Facility, according to state police in Lewistown.

The trooper received minor injuries. He was treated at Lewistown Hospital and released.

Police said the assault occurred as Swartzel was being arrested for disorderly conduct at an apartment complex in the 100 block of Westfall Street in Fayette Township.

Troopers had responded to the apartment complex for a disturbance and found Swartzel intoxicated, yelling loudly and using profane language, police said.

Swartzel was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, simple assault, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

His bail was set at $10,000.
