Officials in Columbia, Lancaster County have declared a state of emergency beginning Wednesday at 2 p.m., due to power outages as well as the threat of freezing temperatures and strong winds overnight.
Recent winter weather left many residents without power, and falling trees damaged a number of homes in the area. Utility companies are working to restore power, and the Public Works Department is in the process of removing ice, snow and downed trees and limbs from roadways.
The Columbia Borough Emergency Management Team has also activated shelters in each of the three Borough Fire Companies:
