Residents wait for power to be restored

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

In Lancaster and York County, crews for both PPL and Met-Ed/First Energy worked to restore power to the thousands that initially lost it due to this recent round of wintry weather.

At the York Fairgrounds, a Met-Ed/First Energy staging area was set up for workers. The company put out a cry for help and workers from outside the area came in to lend a hand. It appeared a large number of crews arrived to the fairgrounds Wednesday evening.

Residents like West Manchester's Daniel Lawrence are hoping their work pays off soon. He lost power around 3 a.m. Wednesday and has been fighting to keep his house warm since.

"Freezing, just waiting for the power to come back, get the house running, get warm," Lawrence said.

Both PPL and Met-Ed/First Energy companies called the efforts a multi-day event.

A representative with PPL reiterated Wednesday night that 90 percent of Lancaster County customers will have their power restored by Friday night. Still, some will have to wait until Saturday.
