UAB loads up on experience on National Signing Day

Posted: Updated:

Bill Clark doesn't necessarily think a "quick fix" is a bad thing.

Fourteen of the Blazers 22 player signing class are junior college transfers.

"Let's just be real honest, we have a bunch of guys that are banged up," Clark said. "There's 20-something guys over there injured and that's not to scare everybody for the future. We have to get well, but we had to address some immediate needs. We had to get older."

UAB signed seven players from California junior colleges. Clark says most of those relationships were built last weekend but Clark joked that the real credit belong to Winter Storm Leon, which stranded the Blazer coaching staff on campus for the better part of two days last week.

"I told somebody probably the best thing that happened to us was the snow because we got stuck," Clark said. "We were in the office and we watched more film from that time."

Hewitt Trussville defensive end Joseph Roberts was the only in-state player listed on UAB's signing day release. Clark says other players, including Saraland offensive lineman Lee Dufour and Bob Jones linebacker David Norris could join the program in the near future.
