56,000 still without power

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

More than 56,000 customers in south central Pennsylvania remained without electricity Thursday afternoon in the wake of a snow and ice storm that toppled dozens of trees and wires.

Nearly 150,000 customers in the area were without service Wednesday.

York County residents make up the bulk of those still waiting for their lights to come back on. Nearly 43,000 customers in the county had no electricity as of 4 p.m. Thursday.

First Energy reported about 34,700 customers in the county were still without power. Adams Electric had 4,262 customers without electricity, while PECO had 3,320 customers and PPL had 687 customers in York County waiting to have power restored.

Utilities have reported that while most customers should have their electricity returned by Friday night, it could be Saturday or Sunday before service is restored to everyone.

First Energy was working to return electricity to about 37,540 customers in south central Pennsylvania as of Thursday afternoon.

The utility reported 928 outages in Cumberland County, 731 in Dauphin County, 536 in Adams County, 394 in Lebanon County, and 247 in Lancaster County.

PPL Electric Utilities reported 11,520 outages in south central Pennsylvania at 4 p.m. More than 10,700 of those customers were in Lancaster County, while more than 50 outages remained in both Dauphin and Lebanon counties.

Adams Electric reported a total of 4,440 customers were still without power in its service area as of Thursday afternoon.
