Thousands of York County residents still without power

Posted: Updated:
YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

Met-Ed spokesman Chris Eck says more than 120,000 people lost power in York County after Wednesday's ice storm.

Eck says restoration crews continue to work on restoring power, but they are facing challenges including icy roads and downed power lines and trees.

Eck says nearly 35,000 people in the county were still in the dark as of Thursday evening.

Richard Stare lost power Wednesday afternoon. He and his wife Ila decided to check into the York Hampton Inn, which is offering a discounted rate for storm victims.

Stare says they tried to stay warm in the family room, but they didn't want to go through another cold night so they planned on staying at the hotel until their power is restored.

Met-Ed hopes to have 90 percent of service restored by Friday evening, and power returned to the remaining customers by the end of the weekend.
