YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

A York County optometrist and one of his former employees have been charged in a prescription drug abuse scheme.

Dr. David Wagers was an optometrist at Apple Hill Eye Center in York when he enlisted the help of Amanda Peters to fill prescriptions for Oxycodone, according to the criminal complaint.

Wagers wrote the prescriptions in Peters' name, and she filled the prescriptions at various pharmacies and returned the pills to Wagers, the complaint states.

Wagers also allegedly used scripts which were stolen from a previous employer to write and fill hydrocodone prescriptions in his own name, the complaint states.

Wagers, 43, of Palmyra, was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance by fraud, one count of prescribing a controlled substance not in accordance with treatment principles, one count of criminal conspiracy and one count of failure to keep records of distribution of controlled substances.

He was released on $7,500 unsecured bail.

Peters, 29, of Wellsville, was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance by fraud and one count of criminal conspiracy.

She was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
