HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Carlisle man was charged with public drunkenness after police say he wandered onto the ice on the Susquehanna River.

On Monday at around 2:45 p.m., Susquehanna Township Police and Fire Department were dispatched to Fort Hunter Park after receiving reports of a man walking on the ice on the river.

Officials located the man near the Rockville Bridge, and he was eventually rescued by fire personnel using an inflatable boat and ropes after nearly reaching the West Shore.

The man, identified as 50-year-old Michael Fry of North Pitt Street in Carlisle, was found to be intoxicated.

Fry was issued a citation for public drunkenness and released to a relative.
