A York man faces charges after police say he staged a robbery and an assault in order to delay a debt he owed.
On January 13, at around 7:50 p.m., Spring Garden Township Police responded to the 600 block of Loucks Mill Road for a report of a shooting.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found 51-year-old Dennis C. Schaller with an apparent gunshot wound to the lower back. Schaller told police that he was the victim of an attempted robbery and assault.
Following a police investigation, authorities determined that the story did not occur the way Schaller reported. They concluded that Schaller staged the incident as a result of a monetary debt he owed which he hoped to delay paying.
Schaller was charged with criminal conspiracy and false reports to law enforcement authorities.
Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to contact Spring Garden Township Police at 717-843-0851.
