New Developments In Murder Of Virginia Tech Student

Posted:

Blacksburg, VA - New details are out involving the current and former Virginia Tech students implicated in the murder of a Virginia Tech co-ed.

Senior Jessica Ewing is charged with the second degree murder of 21 year old Samanata Shrestha. Recent graduate, Keifer Brown is charged as an accessory after the fact.

Blacksburg Police now say the case began as a welfare check but then quickly evolved into a homicide case.

Police say they developed Ewing and Brown as suspects early in the case.

The Collegiate Times is also reporting that a conversation with Samanata's uncle reveals the victim was found in the trunk of the Black Mercedes police recovered Monday morning and that she had marks around her throat.

Police confirm the car was recovered in the 600 block of High Meadow Road in Montgomery County.

Police will not confirm the story or the recovery of Samantha' body citing the sensitive nature of the evidence and the need to protect it; in particular the crime's timeline.

"I think it's important to this case and for important for the Commonwealth that is going to prosecute this case. So that's where a lot of the work and details come in. Is to get that timeline established definitively," said Blacksburg Police PIO, Lt. Nathan O'Dell.

Tuesday the university sent out notice that Sam's family will be receiving friends at McCoy Funeral home, in Blacksburg, Wednesday from noon until 2 p.m.

A candlelight vigil for Samanata is scheduled for Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Virginia Tech's War Memorial.
