Residents report suspicious men posing as PPL workers

Posted: Updated:
STEELTON, Pa. (WHTM) -

Monday afternoon, James Horchler heard a knock at his Steelton door.

He came to the door and saw two men wearing reflective vests and makeshift badges. He immediately thought something was up.

Horchler's concerns were further validated when the two men presented an interesting story.

"The guy said, 'we're here from PPL, we are here to talk to you. We have some paperwork about a discount on your electric,' " Horchler said. "So I said 'put it in the mailbox' and the guy said, 'no you have to open the door and sign for this.' "

The man insisted he open the door, Horchler said. However, he did not and went to the phone to contact the power company. When he came back to the door minutes later, the men were gone, leaving without further incident.

"Who knows what their other intentions were?" Horchler said.

PPL said the men are not company employees, adding that PPL workers will never go door to door, work is prearranged and they all wear clear identification badges.

Abc27 received another report from a viewer on Facebook who said they had a similar incident in Lower Paxton Township.

Steelton police said they have not received any reports about the suspicious activity.
