A 10-year-veteran of the Mount Joy Borough Police Department was treated at a hospital and released after he was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic Tuesday night.
Officer Jason Smith was thrown to the ground and suffered back and leg injuries, police said.
Smith was directing traffic across the first block of E. Main Street, where pedestrians were crossing from a funeral home to a church service, when he was hit at around 6:40 p.m., police said.
The eastbound driver who struck him, a Mount Joy resident, did not see Smith directing traffic, police said.
Because the incident involves one of their officers, Mount Joy police have turned the investigation over to Pennsylvania State Police.
