Florida State University President Eric Barron will be named the next President of Penn State University, according to published reports.

The Centre Daily Times and Philadelphia TV station WPVI cited sources who said Barron will be introduced as Penn State's next president on Monday.

Barron was at Pennsylvania State University from 1986 to 2006. He was professor of geosciences, director of the Earth System Science Center, director of the EMS Environment Institute, and finally dean of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, according to his biography on the Florida State University website.

He took the position of president of Florida State University on February 1, 2010.

No formal announcement has been made by Penn State, but the university said late Friday that a "special meeting" next week will be "to consider the appointment of a president."

The public meeting takes place at noon Monday in the Penn Stater Conference Center and Hotel.

The school says there will be a press conference afterward.

President Rodney Erickson, who's led the school since shortly after Jerry Sandusky's arrest, plans to retire by June.
