Teheran gets long term extension to remain with Atlanta Braves

Posted: Updated:

The Atlanta Braves didn't waste time with young pitcher Julio Teheran.

The player got a six-year contract extension for $32.4 million guaranteed. The deal includes an option for a seventh year at a cost of $12 million.

Teheran wasn't eligible to become a free agent until 2018.

He was fifth in the National League Rookie of the Year voting last season after posting a 14-8 record and 3.20 ERA in 185 2/3 innings.

Teheran the latest player the team has locked up long term. The Braves signed Jason Heyward and Freddie Freeman to multi-year extensions earlier this month.

Pitcher Craig Kimbrel is the only player the team has yet to sign and could be forced to take to arbitration.
