YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police in York charged a man after they say he beat his girlfriend to death.

On Tuesday Jermane Taylor, 23, was charged in connection with the death of his girlfriend, 34-year-old Billie Jo Bratton.

According to police, she was beaten to death in her apartment in the 200 block of South West Street on Sunday.

"(She was a) very friendly neighbor, got along with everybody, her kids played with our kids...wonderful woman and it's sad to see that this happen," Tiffany Winters, a neighbor and friend of Bratton's said.

Officials said Taylor is the one who called police after her death.

A forensic autopsy was performed on Tuesday, and Bratton's death was ruled a homicide as a result of blunt force trauma.

Taylor is charged with criminal homicide.
