22 miles of icy I-81 reopens after numerous crashes

JONESTOWN, Pa. (WHTM) -

Numerous crashes closed an icy, 22-mile stretch of Interstate 81 in Lebanon and Schuylkill counties for several hours Tuesday.

All northbound and southbound lanes of I-81 were shut down between the Lebanon exit at mile marker 90 and the Hegins exit at mile marker 112 until after 2 p.m., according to state police in Jonestown.

Police said several vehicles crashed, including at least one PennDOT salt truck, and numerous tractor-trailers jackknifed when freezing rain coated the highway in ice this morning.

No injuries were reported.
