Driver faces charges following fatal crash in Lancaster

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -

A 33-year-old Lancaster man faces numerous charges after police say he caused a crash that claimed the life of a 24-year-old woman.

According to officials, Carlos R. Garcia, 33, of the first block of East Lemon Street, was driving west on East King Street and struck the rear of another vehicle.

Following the impact, Garcia's vehicle went into the eastbound lane of East King Street and struck another vehicle head-on.

A witness reported seeing Garcia weaving in and out of lanes at high speeds just prior to the collision.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle, a 47-year-old Lancaster Township woman, was taken to Lancaster General Hospital along with her 24-year-old daughter who was a passenger. The daughter died at the hospital, and her mother was admitted in serious condition.

Garcia and his 7-year-old passenger were also taken to Lancaster General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released. The driver of the vehicle struck in the rear was not injured.

All three vehicles were towed from the scene, and the roadway was closed for around five hours.

Garcia was later arrested. He faces numerous charges including homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless driving and driving while under suspension DUI related.

According to police, Garcia is suspected of DUI in this crash, and appropriate charges will be filed his blood alcohol testing results are available.

Garcia was taken to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $150,000 cash bail.
