2 Carlisle men charged with drug offenses

CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

Two Carlisle men who fled a traffic stop in the borough are facing drug charges after officers searched their rental vehicle and found crack cocaine, police said.

Michael Burgess, 30, was driving a silver Toyota at a high rate of speed on E. South Street when officers stopped the vehicle last Monday night, police said.

Burgess and his passenger, 25-year-old Demetrius Barnes, fled the vehicle, police said.

Barnes was detained briefly and released, but a later search of the vehicle turned up crack cocaine packaged for sale, a digital scale and other controlled substances, police said.

Barnes was taken into custody Saturday.

Burgess was in Cumberland County Prison for other offenses and was also charged with possession with intent to deliver and related crimes, police said.
