RICHMOND, BC, Feb. 24, 2014 /CNW/ - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. ("MDA" or the "Company") (TSX: MDA), a global communications and information company, announced today that it has signed contracts totaling approximately CA$3.5 million dollars with Collecte Localisation Satellites (CLS), France. MDA will extend its provision of RADARSAT-2 data to ground stations located in Brest, France; La Reunion Island; and Kerguelen Islands.

The RADARSAT-2 imaging capabilities are used by CLS to derive information and support a number of applications: maritime surveillance and detection of illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing ships in the South Western Indian Ocean, around the Heard and MacDonald Islands, and around Kerguelen Island; and for mapping, research and maritime surveillance around Europe and over French overseas Economic Exclusive Zones.

The RADARSAT-2 satellite has global high-resolution surveillance capabilities that include a large collection capacity and high accuracy. The satellite acquires data regardless of light or weather condition, provides frequent re-visit imaging options, and is supported by ground receiving stations that provide near real-time information delivery services. This versatility makes RADARSAT-2 a reliable source.
