Samford basketball falls to last place The Citadel

Samford basketball is happy to be done with it's road schedule.

The Bulldogs lost to Southern Conference cellar dweller The Citadel, 81-71 in it's final regular season road game.

It's the Bulldogs first league win of the season.

The Citadel used a 22-9 run at the end of the first half to take a 38-24 lead into halftime. Samford never got within five points of the lead in the second half.

Isaiah Williams led the Bulldogs with 24 points and Tim Williams added 20 points. The other nine players who logged minutes combined for 25 points.

Samford (11-18, 5-9) returns home and wrap up the regular season against Appalachian State on Thursday and Western Carolina on Saturday.

The Southern Conference basketball tournament begins next week in Asheville, N.C.

    ANNISTON, Alabama -- Anniston police are investigating a shooting outside a local bar that wounded Jacksonville State running back Troymaine Pope. Pope, 20, suffered a gunshot wound to his right bicep while trying to run for safety after gunfire erupted in the parking lot of AJ's Sunset Grill around 5:20 a.m. Sunday.
