ENOLA, Pa. (WHTM) -

An East Pennsboro Area Middle School arrested for child pornography is on leave without pay, according to the school district.

Craig Cohen, an 8th grade science teacher, was charged by the state attorney general's office Monday with distributing child pornography from his home computer.

In a statement Tuesday, the school district said it had no knowledge of the investigation prior to Cohen's arrest.

"We ask that parents speak to their children about this incident as they feel necessary. School counselors will be available for parents to reach out to about concerns for their children, or for children to speak to while at school," the district said in the statement.

"Middle school and high school teachers will be reassuring students that they are safe in our buildings. If students show signs of struggling with this incident, they will be encouraged to reach out to a school counselor."

The state attorney general's office said Cohen, 29, had a number of child pornography files stored  on his home computer and made the files publicly available for download.

He was charged with four counts of dissemination of child pornography, one count of possession of child pornography and one count of criminal use of a communication facility.

His bail at Cumberland County Prison was set at $100,000, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 3.

He has been employed by East Pennsboro since 2008.
