HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A New York man has been arrested for assaulting a Harrisburg thrift store clerk during an armed robbery last year.

Angel Tirado, 39, of Willard, NY, is charged with robbery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and unlawful restraint for an incident in the Family Dollar at 400 S. Cameron Street, according to city police.

The 44-year-old clerk was attacked from behind by a robber who put a knife to her throat shortly after she opened the store on the morning of Jan. 19, 2013.

The robber demanded money, access to the safe, the clerk's cell phone and purse as he forced her to various aisles and rooms, police said.

She tried to fight him off when he began to tie her hands with some sort of cord, but she was punched repeatedly and knocked unconscious before her attacker fled the store.

Police said Tirado had been traveling in the south and had stopped in Harrisburg for a few weeks when he committed the crime.

He has been returned to Pennsylvania and is awaiting a preliminary hearing at the Dauphin County Prison, where his bail was set at $500,000 cash.
