Police said they caught a woman and her son in the act when they set up a sting operation for numerous thefts from vehicles at a Lancaster County park & ride.
Lois E. Pack, 76, and Everett L. Pack, 37, both of Gap, were arrested at the Cloverleaf Road and Route 283 East off-ramp in Mount Joy Township, where in the past several months $25,000 worth of property has been stolen from parked vehicles that had windows broken, Northwest Regional police said.
Everett Pack smashed two windows of a vehicle used in the sting operation, and he and his mother were taking items from the vehicle before officers moved in and took them into custody, police said.
Police said the mother and son team may be involved in thefts from vehicles parked at several park & ride locations, as well as home and storage facility burglaries, in Lancaster, Chester, Dauphin and Berks counties.
Everett Pack was placed in Lancaster County Prison on prior burglary charges and a probation violation. Court records indicate he was arrested twice last month; by state police for thefts in Salisbury Township and by East Hempfield Township police for a home burglary.
Lois Pack was released pending further investigation of the incidents, police said. Court records show she was also arrested for the home burglary in East Hempfield Township last month.
Authorities said both suspects face many additional charges as the investigation continues.
