No charges likely in Tallassee mauling death

Posted: Updated:
TALLAPOOSA COUNTY - AL -

The Tallapoosa County district attorney says it's unlikely that charges will be pursued against the owner of two dogs believed to be involved in the fatal mauling of a 4 year old girl near Tallassee.  Tallapoosa County does not have a law against dogs running at large.  District Attorney E. Paul Jones says if there is no law, then there can be no charges.

The girl was playing in her yard Wednesday.  Her grandfather went to check on her and noticed a large dog standing over her.  Police impounded two dogs.  The name of the owner has not been released.  Tallassee Police says a court order is being sought to have the dogs put down.
