Birmingham leaders approve more money for "Mow More"

Posted: Updated:

The Birmingham City Council approved $2 million Tuesday for Mayor William Bell's Mow More program.

The initiative focuses on clearing overgrown lots. Bell also says the money will help staff the people and the equipment to continue the work.

He also says the city will give more details soon on an upcoming program called Rise. That program, Bell says, will allow citizens to purchase adjacent abandoned properties at low cost.

The City Council had planned to vote on incorporating the Birmingham Land Bank Authority. But it decided to wait pending more information.  The land bank involves acquiring tax-delinquent, abandoned properties.
