Central Pa. tavern gets 1st small-games license

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has awarded its first license for small games of chance in bars.

The board during its Wednesday meeting in Harrisburg approved the application of The Midway Tavern in Hanover, Adams County.

Governor Tom Corbett's budget proposal counts on $100 million in revenue from small games in bars, but only ten establishments have applied for licenses so far.

Some blame a complex application process and costs of $2,000 for the initial application and background check, plus another $2,000 to get the actual license.

Bar owners will see the state will take 60 percent off the top of their small games revenue, and local municipalities will get an additional five percent.
