Update 1:30 p.m.

The burglary suspect was able to escape from a home in Jacksonville following a standoff with law enforcement, ABC 33/40 reporter Robert Richardson has learned.

Authorities called off the standoff around 1 p.m. and are now using K-9 units to search the nearby woods for the suspect, who was caught in the act and shot at by a relative of the homeowner.

Police said the suspect -- a black male wearing dark clothing and a bandana on his face -- was attempting to rob a home on White Gaps Road around 10 a.m. while a second suspect waited in the driveway in a getaway vehicle.

The homeowner's father-in-law drove by the location and noticed the suspicious vehicle, prompting him to pull in to investigate. The getaway driver quickly sped off, leaving his cohort inside the home as more relatives of the homeowner arrived at the location. Moments later, the burglary suspect exited the house and pulled a weapon out on the father-in-law, who proceeded to pull his own gun out and fire a shot at the man. The bullet missed and forced the suspect to retreat back inside the home.

At some point after the encounter with the homeowner's relatives, the suspect managed to escape undetected, fleeing the property on foot in an unknown direction.

No arrests have been made at this time.
