The Borough of Palmyra is hiring a geologist to find out exactly how deep that massive sinkhole is they've been dealing with on East Cherry Street. The sinkhole has affected several homes in the area.
Borough council approved contracting the geologist at its meeting Monday night at a cost of just under $21,000.
The results are expected within a month. So what happens then?
"That's what we need to decide then," said Borough Council President Jane Quairoli. "We need the results to figure out what the next step is. I mean it's a bad situation for everybody; the borough and obviously the residents more so."
Borough Manager Roger Powl said the geologist they are working with believes the sinkhole is shallow and therefore has a floor.
