Volunteers needed to help Hands On Birmingham

Posted: Updated:
BIRMINGHAM - AL -

Your help is needed to help our community.  Hands on Birmingham is looking for a lot of volunteers for their latest project.  The group is recruiting 950 volunteers for Project Homeless Connect.  PHC is a nationwide annual event that brings needed services to the homeless community on one day at one location.

This year PHC will be held Saturday, April 5 from 7:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at The Boutwell Auditorium.  The event is produced by One Roof.  That is a local nonprofit serving as an advocate for the homeless.  Events like these allow many different community agencies collaborate to offer services that can offer a way out of homelessness.

Hands On Birmingham volunteers be the "Smiling Faces" client guides.  It is more like a hostess position that directs people where to go.  The group wants to match each homeless client with a volunteer to navigate them through all the stations of services.  The volunteers will be there for support and encouragement, as well as helpers with completing paperwork.  Volunteers can register at www.handsonbirmingham.org
