CHILTON COUNTY - AL -

A volunteer firefighter is charged with sexually abusing a child under 12 - a relationship deputies believe started at the fire station. Chilton County authorities confirmed to ABC 33/40, 22 year old Clint Burnett - a volunteer firefighter from Fairview - in South Central Chilton County - is charged with the crimes. Burnett faces three counts of sodomy and one count of sex abuse with a child under 12.  He has bonded out of jail. His preliminary hearing is set for April first.

UPDATE:

ABC 33/40 spoke with Fairview Volunteer Fire Chief Joe Cole. He told us that while he can't comment on the investigation, it's been difficult on the small community.

We are currently in shock," Joe Cole, Fairview Fire Chief said. "We have known the individual for many years. Hearing the news caught us all off guard."

"We know there are lots of rumors being spread," Cole said. "We ask everyone not to take part in spreading the rumors."

"We don't get paid on the calls we answer on or the hours we spend in training," Cole added. "Often, we pay for training out of our own pockets. We intend to continue providing services and improve our services as we have in the past."
