HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - A rival candidate for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor has kept his word and filed a challenge against Jay Paterno, son of the late Penn State football coach.

Harrisburg City Councilman Brad Koplinski, one of six hopefuls for the No. 2 slot on the Democratic gubernatorial ticket, filed the challenge with state elections officials on Monday.

Koplinski is contesting the validity of Paterno's signatures from Chester, Mifflin and Philadelphia counties. He alleges that some voters weren't registered at the address they listed and some voters weren't registered as Democrats.

In order to qualify for the May 20 primary ballot, candidates for lieutenant governor needed at least 1,000 signatures of their party's registered voters, including 100 in each of five counties.
