Police charge father after 3-year-old wanders from home

STEELTON, Pa. (WHTM) -

Steelton police say they have charged a borough man with one count of endangering the welfare of a child after his young son wandered away from his home last Friday.

Police say the little boy, believed to be three-years-old, wandered into the Family Dollar store on Front Street in Steelton by himself.

Police identified the father as Marzouk Elnakib.

One worker said the boy was crying and wanted his parents. A worker called police, who were then able to find his home, which was a short distance away on the 900 block of Wood Street.

Police Chief Scott Spangler said this kind of thing is very rare.

People we spoke to cringed when they heard the story.

"This is Front Street," said one man. "This used to be a highway back in the day and the little kid can walk over there and drown in the river."
