HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A New York man is headed to trial for assaulting a Harrisburg thrift store clerk during an armed robbery last year.

Angel Tirado, 39, of Willard, NY, waived his preliminary hearing before a district judge Tuesday.

Tirado is accused of putting a knife to the clerk's throat after she opened the Family Dollar store at 400 S. Cameron Street the morning of Jan. 19, 2013.

Authorities said he demanded access to the store safe and the clerk's purse, then tried to bind the 44-year-old woman's hands with a cord.

When she tried to fight him off, Tirado allegedly punched the woman repeatedly and knocked her unconscious, police said.

Tirado is in the Dauphin County Prison on $500,000 bail. A formal arraignment was scheduled May 7.
