UPDATE:

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --  Local golf courses will continue to host some of the greatest names in the sport.

Regions Financial Corporation and the PGA Tour's Champions Tour announced a five year extension for the Regions Tradition along with a change of venue in 2016.

The city of Birmingham has become a sports destination.

It just scored a five year extension on The Regions Tradition, a major PGA championship.

Regions Financial Corporation CEO, Grayson Hall, says "It provides a tremendous economic impact for the city, but it also provides some fun and people get to go outside and enjoy watching some great golf with some names clearly in the hall of fame."

Shoal Creek, designed by Jack Nicklaus, has hosted the tournament since 2011 and will continue to do so for two more years. President, Mike Thompson, says "We're excited about this year's event. We're putting in 7 new bunkers for the players."

In 2016, the championship will then swing over to Greystone Golf and Country club, which has previously hosted the Bruno's Memorial Classic.

Greystone President, Dr. Jeff Clifton, says "In preparation for the event coming starting this summer, we will be re-doing our golf course. will have architects in and construction to re do all of our greens. 100% will be re-constructed with new sand and drainage."

Champions Tour President, Mike Stevens, says Birmingham is one of the best cities players visit every year. "It's always great to continue the tradition like the tradition here in Birmingham. myself and our players are very excited and can't wait to come here in May."

Along with the excitement of the game, comes a huge win for the city. The economic impact is almost 54 million from 2011 through 2014. It has also raised millions of dollars for Children's of Alabama and local charities.

Clifton says, "It can't do anything but help us."

The Regions Tradition will take place here at Shoal Creek May 14th through the 18th when David Frost will attempt to defend his title.
