Why so many 'for sale' signs in Susquehanna Township?

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Susquehanna Township residents concerned about recent issues in their school district got a chance to see the latest real estate statistics first-hand Tuesday night.

Exit Realty owner Cindy Amour-Helm held an informational meeting to give the public an unbiased look at the numbers.

According to MLS data compiled by her staff, sales have been relatively steady over the last five years.

She said nearly 100 homes have been sold or are pending in just the first quarter of 2014, while approximately 350 are sold each year in the township.

Brian Long, a father who attended the meeting, said he's not optimistic about the numbers.

"People are seeing that the school district is not meeting expectations that have been a tradition here in Susquehanna, so I don't think we have what we used to have here, and people are turning away," he said.

The MLS figures show average home prices in 2010 were $164,000, compared to $158,000 in 2013 and $144,000 so far in 2014.
