A Lancaster County man is headed to trial for fatally shooting a horse as it pulled a buggy carrying an Amish family.
Timothy Antonio Diggs Jr., 21, of Ronks, waived charges of reckless endangerment and criminal mischief to Lancaster County court during a preliminary hearing Thursday.
Diggs allegedly shot the horse Nov. 23 as it pulled a buggy with five passengers along North Ronks Road in East Lampeter Township.
The Amish family heard a noise that sounded like a firecracker as a car passed by and discovered the horse was bleeding when they arrived at a farm about a mile away, police said.
The horse died a short time later from a bullet wound to the left side of its chest.
None of the buggy passengers were injured.
Diggs remains in Lancaster County Prison on $10,000 bail. His formal arraignment is scheduled April 11.
