CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Carlisle man has been charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI in a crash that killed his passenger earlier this month.

Corey W. Chestnut, 38, was additionally charged Monday with aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, reckless endangerment, DUI, and numerous summary traffic violations, according to state police.

Police said Chestnut had a blood-alcohol content higher than .16 percent and was speeding March 1 when he went out of control and struck a tree on Lebo Road in Penn Township.

A rear passenger in his vehicle, 34-year-old Jeannette Griffith of Carlisle, died at the scene.

Chestnut was taken into custody on an arrest warrant and committed to Cumberland County Prison on $75,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled April 3.
