The South Central Task Force is hosting a Homeland Security conference at Central Penn College in Summerdale. Speakers from all over the country are sharing lessons learned about the disasters that they dealt with.
Task Force Chairman Stephen Libhart says having a disaster response plan in place saves time and lives. The South Central Task Force covers eight counties, and it creates strong communication throughout the network and the sharing of resources during an emergency response.
"Many times the larger scale incident exceeds the capabilities of that jurisdiction," said Libhart. "When that happens, the task force comes in and says, 'We have assets and manpower that can be shared.'"
First responders from Boston are scheduled to talk about their experiences during the Boston Marathon bombing, and survivors of the Virginia Tech shootings will also share their stories during the three-day conference.
