A 16-year-old boy told authorities he robbed a York County business with a BB gun because he wanted to help his family pay their bills, police said.
The teen has been charged in the armed robbery of the Choice Outlet/Exxon in Shrewsbury three weeks ago, according to Southern Regional police.
Police said he displayed the gun when he demanded money from the store at 4 E. Forrest Avenue on March 6.
He told the clerk that he was sorry, and that he was doing the robbery because his mother was sick, police said. He then fled on a bicycle.
The teen's name was not released because he is a juvenile.
He has been released on $25,000 unsecured bail.
