Harrisburg man acquitted in slaying outside city bar

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Harrisburg man has been acquitted in the shooting death of his girlfriend's estranged husband outside a city bar last summer.

A Dauphin County jury found 41-year-old Theodore Meriweather acted in self-defense when he shot 53-year-old John Lumpkins at the corner of Dewberry and Blackberry streets on the night of June 22.

Lumpkins, also of Harrisburg, had confronted the couple after they left the bar and was shot in the chest during an argument with Meriweather.

Meriweather told jurors at the trial that Lumpkins had threatened him with a knife during another confrontation a year earlier.
