It's not a large amount of cash, but the Millersville Lions Club was happy to help collect and distribute $4,760 to three households that had to deal with a sewer line break on West Charlotte Street late last year.
One of the families that received the assistance was the Gerners. They told their story to abc27 back in October. They saw vile sewage spew from their basement toilet for two hours. The cleanup and emergency remodeling cost them about $15,000.
"It was very humbling, it really was. It made me feel proud again to be part of this community, to feel the love and support," Lindsay Gerner said.
They were among the dozen households affected, and of the three which received funds by the Lions Club. Some residents already received assistance through other means.
The Lions started collecting funds shortly following the incident. They put an ad in the paper and asked those at local churches to chip in.
"We just felt these people in Millersville are our friends and our neighbors. If we can help them out then there should be some way we can do that," Millersville Lions Club member Harold Rhodes said.
