Rain, Cold, and Wind Can't Keep NASCAR Fans Away in Martinsville

Posted:

Martinsville, VA - This weekend's weather may not have been ideal at the Martinsville Speedway.

On Saturday, rain postponed the truck race and canceled cup practice and conditions were chilly and windy Sunday.

The weather didn't stop fans and drivers from making the most of their weekend, though.

"We made the most of it, we all made the most of it. So it was pretty nice," said D.C. resident and NASCAR fan Brian King.

"We had a good time. We played bags and did what we always do when we're camping, we ate a lot, talked a lot, drank a lot," said Camper Martha Phillips.

Phillips drove from Richmond to Martinsville for the race. She said she wouldn't let the rain and cold ruin her trip.

"We had a ball. You can't not have fun at a race," Phillips said.

For the drivers, though, the bad weather wasn't as exciting.

"Down time doesn't work for the boys. The drivers are ready, they are ready to get in their cars, practice, race. Down time for them is a little harder," explained Kyle Busch's Wife Samantha Busch.

Samantha Busch says she took advantage of the slower schedule.

"We did a work out video, we watched TV, I wrote a bunch of blogs, worked on our foundation project," Busch said.

Samantha Busch said they decided to stay in Martinsville though out the weekend. She says they took advantage of the slower pace on Saturday before Kyle got behind the wheel.

As Kyle races, Samantha says she braves the elements just like other fans.

"Be at the pit boxes, running back and forth. If it starts snowing we may pop into the motor home for a little bit," Busch said.
