Middletown's Hoffer Park has been closed until further notice because of a discharge of raw sewage from the sewer system, according to a borough spokesman.
Borough spokesman Chris Courogen said the incident was caused by Sunday's heavy rains.
He said problems with the borough's sewer system allowed stormwater into the sewers and overflowed the system.
Courogen said the state Department of Environmental Protection has been notified and the park will reopen once Public Works completes a cleanup.
He said the problem with the sewer system will be addressed during the first phase of a downtown improvement project.
Work to replace an old brick and mortar sewer main under Union Street in the downtown will begin later in the spring.
