HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Susquehanna Township school board secretary and former president Michael Ferguson has resigned his post.

Current board president John Dietrich told abc27 Ferguson submitted his resignation Friday. The board will vote to approve it at a special meeting tonight at 7:00.

Dietrich did not provide a reason for Ferguson's departure, but said his position will be filled by appointment within 30 days.

The remaining eight board members will accept applications and interview potential candidates, and will begin discussing that process at tonight's meeting.

"We want this to be as open and transparent as possible," he said. "I envision the board hearing from candidates publicly, but we are still working out those details."

In the end, a majority vote by the board will determine who's appointed. Administrators will not have a vote, Dietrich said.

A call to Ferguson for comment was not returned Monday morning.
