A warning out there if you plan to move: be careful who you get for a moving company.
The Heffelfingers moved to Dillsburg from Montana a couple of days ago, but it turned out to be a nightmare. They say it started when they hired Budget Van Lines. As it turned out, Budget contracted the job out to another firm.
Also, Sheryl Heffelfinger says she was being charged $1,500 over the estimate she had been given, even though the actual weight being moved was less than what was quoted.
Sheryl refused to pay. However the company wouldn't release her things until she paid up. Eventually, she agreed to pay $500 over her estimate to get her stuff back.
"You're just like - your hands are tied and you're just taken advantage of," she said. "They give you the price and you either pay it or they take it."
Sheryl said a lot of her stuff was broken. She's been trying to file damage claims, but has found it very hard to make any progress doing that with the firm's customer service.
"I just want to be treated fairly," she said. "If that's what the weight of my belongings were, that's what I should be charged for, and if you damaged my stuff it should be fixed."
I did not use the name of the contractor because I did not get the chance to talk with them.
I called Budget late in the day and left a message, but did not get a return call.
