MANHEIM, Pa. (WHTM) -

A state police fire marshal is investigating a deadly fire in Penn Township, Lancaster County.

Emergency crews were called to a home along the 1100 block of Newport Road at 12:40 a.m. Sunday. Heavy flames were shooting from the roof.

Officials believe the fire started in the kitchen then spread. They also believe that two people were home at the time, but only one person made it out.

The Penryn Fire Chief Shannon Martin said one person inside of the home died. Martin said no firefighters were hurt.

Firefighters weren't able to find any smoke detectors because of the damage.

The identity of the deceased has not been released, but authorities said that the victim was an adult.

A state police fire marshal is trying to determine what sparked the fire, but it appears to be accidental.
