Egg suit against ex-Pa. sect'y ends with $75K deal

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - A $75,000 court settlement has apparently ended a long-running court battle between a Harrisburg restaurant owner and a former Pennsylvania health department official over an egg sandwich.

PennLive.com (http://bit.ly/1g3jBbv) said Tuesday that former state Health Secretary Eli Avila and Richard Hanna are barred from discussing the agreement, which resolves Hanna's lawsuit stemming from the January 2011 dispute at Hanna's cafe near the state Capitol.

Hanna claimed that the incident developed into an abuse of authority that cost him a lucrative state food vending contract. Avila denied abusing his power.

According to Hanna's suit, the argument began when Avila complained about the freshness of the eggs in his sandwich. Hanna claimed Avila at one point shouted, "Do you know who I am?"

Avila resigned as health secretary in October 2012.
