EPA meeting held in north Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM - AL -

A Birmingham city councilman wants the public to be informed about a new air permit for a north Birmingham industrial plant.

Council member William Parker held a Title V information meeting with the Jefferson County Department of Health and the Environmental Protection Agency.

This comes in the light of Walter Coke, a furnace and foundry coke producer, submitting a new application for a new air emissions for its plant.

Councilman Parker wants north Birmingham neighborhoods, which have been designated as a superfund site by the EPA, to be informed.

"It's very important that the community is involved in the process. We're encouraged, but we also want the citizens to participate in the process," says Parker.

Another meeting will take place Tuesday, April 15 at Harriman Park Recreation Center at 6:00PM.
